THE INVITATION

2026 / Harpswell Collective Opening
Harpswell, Maine

SITE-RESPONSIVE, PARTICIPATORY WEAVING

What happens when a gathering becomes a community?

This weaving began as an invitation.

Created during Harpswell Collective's opening weekend, visitors were invited to select a material and weave together, gradually transforming individual contributions into a single collective work of art.

The materials—including donated yarns, fabrics, reclaimed textiles, and lobster line—are rooted in the region's maritime heritage, echoing the textures and palette of the Maine coast and its enduring sense of place.

Layer by layer, each woven gesture held a conversation, a quiet pause, or a moment shared during a visit to Harpswell Collective. Like the Maine coastline—shaped over time by the rhythms of the tides—the weaving evolved with every new contribution.

Together, these woven gestures became a lasting record of many hands, conversations, and moments shared here.
